Pop Field

The pop field is really packed this year as most of the prominent songs this year are inside this genre and remember that crossover entrants usually fit better here. However, in terms of albums, there are not many outstanding contenders.

Best Pop Solo Performance: There are three certain bets in this category Justin Timberlake (“Mirrors”); Bruno Mars (“When I Was Your Man”); and Taylor Swift (“I Knew You Were Trouble”). The fourth spot belongs to either Katy Perry (“Roar”) or Sara Bareilles (“Brave”) but not them together. While the filler nominee should come from one of following: Lady Gaga (“Applause”); Lorde (“Royals”); Miley Cyrus (“Wrecking Ball”); Anna Kendrick (“Cups”); Demi Lovato (“Heart Attack”); P!nk (“Try”); and Phillip Phillips (“Gone, Gone, Gone”).

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance: Since this category was merged duo/groups have little chance of getting this award so the top contenders here are featured collaborations. There are five certain bets: Robin Thicke/T.I./Pharrel (“Blurred Lines”); Daft Punk/Pharrel (“Get Lucky”); P!nk/Nate Ruess (“Just Give Me A Reason”); Macklemore & Ryan Lewis/Ray Dalton (“Can’t Hold Us”) and Rihanna/Mikky Ekko (“Stay”). Other contenders are Taylor Swift/Ed Sheeran (“Everything Has Changed”) and John Mayer/Katy Perry (“Who You Love”). On the other hand if Justin Timberlake’s label is smart enough “Suit & Tie” with Jay-Z should be submitted here in order to get the highest number of nominations possible.  If there’s any group with a chance here most be Capital Cities (“Safe and Sound”). Maroon 5 (“Love Somebody”) and Fun. (“Carry On”) should sneak here.

Best Pop Vocal Album: Locks here are Justin Timberlake (The 20/20 Experience) and Bruno Mars (Unorthodox Jukebox). The other two I can think of are Lorde (Pure Heroine) and Robin Thicke (Robin Thicke).  Now I had a hard time figuring out who could be the other album.  I think this category might be filled with underground/veteran acts. However considering critical acclaim and commercial success top contenders should be John Mayer (Paradise Valley); Ariana Grande (Yours Truly); Avicii (True); Lana del Rey (Paradise); Ellie Goulding (Halycon). Veterans with new albums are Elton John (The Diving Board) and Sting (The Last Ship

Best Pop Instrumental Album: I don’t know much about instrumental pop music. On a quick web search I’ve found out that several former and multiple GRAMMY-winners in this category have new releases this year such as Bela Fleck, Booker T. James, Dave Koz, and Boney James.
