58th GRAMMYs: Odds for the Country field

Wrapping up the predictions for the mainstream fields is Country. This field contain four categories: solo performance, group or duo, and the regular songwriters’ and album awards.

Bluegrass, folk, and Americana artists no longer compete here as they know have their own field: “American roots”. The result is a group of nominees that are strictly country, though some of them do have pop, rock, or blues influences.

Chris Stapleton dominates the field with three nods. Ashley Monroe and Little Big Town are in twice. The rest of the nominees only appear once.

58th GRAMMYs: Predictions for the Country field

In just a matter of hours the nominees for the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be revealed. And before that, it is time to look at the odds for the last of the mainstream fields: Country.

Predicting the nominees for the country field is not too hard: Collect the highlights from previous country music award shows (CMA/ACM); keep in mind former winners and veterans performing traditional country; and forget about the country-pop radio hits. However this year, and rather unusually, two newbies will be dominating this field: Bro-country singer, Sam Hunt and bluegrass musician, Chris Stapleton. The country field usually features traditional country music versus the current alternative/country pop trend. And this year there is no exception as big name, middle-of-the-road, and breakthrough artists are all in contention. And, here are the predictions:

Best Country Solo Performance

  • Miranda Lambert — Automatic
  • Carrie Underwood — Something in the Water
  • Eric Church — Give Me Back My Hometown
  • Hunter Hayes — Invisible
  • Cole Swindell — Chillin’ It


Two women can be considered the strongest bets in this category: Former winner, Miranda Lambert who’s been on the GRAMMYs radar for the last four years, should have no problem with “Automatic”, the 2014 CMA winner for Single of the Year.
