The Rock and Alternative fields are somewhat difficult to predict. Usually veterans have an advantage, but new acts can always surprise. We also have a wide range of sub-genres in all of the categories ranging from folk-rock to radio-friendly pop-rock. Let’s now take a look at the odds for each category on both fields:

The pop field is highly competitive this year as it includes most of the general field nominees as well as some of the hit singles of the year. Big names and NARAS’ favourites are nominated across the four categories of this field. Let’s now take  a look at the odds in each of these categories:

Best Pop Solo Performance

57th GRAMMYs: Odds for Best New Artist

As it’s been in the last couple of years, the Best New Artist line-up has a representative from the mainstream genres. We have hip-hop (Iggy Azalea); alternative music (Bastille); indie-pop (HAIM); country (Brandy Clark); and AC/pop (Sam Smith).

Throughout the years, this category have been dominated by female solo singers. However, for the past three years it has been won by groups. The last male solo singer to take the award was John Legend in 2006.

57th GRAMMYs: Odds for Song of the Year

The race for Song of the Year is tight. Four of the nominated songs are also in the race for Record of the Year. Furthermore, there are three songs (Chandelier, Take Me to Church, and Stay with Me) with winning potential. And as for the other two, everybody is wondering how they got in there.

With the exception of Max Martin and Taylor Swift, all the other nominated songwriters are competing for the very first time in this category.
