GoldDerby.com is one of the largest websites that tracks American showbizz awards’. Both experts and fans are there to predict the outcomes for the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, etc… on a daily basis. It also runs a forum for users to discuss their predictions.

User james14 opened the GoldDerby Music Awards and is currently collecting the ballots for the nominations. The voting members are -off course- the forum’s users. The eligibility period is the same as the actual GRAMMYs (Oct 1/2012-Sep 30/2013)  and it features the same mainstream categories with some exceptions (such as combing Best Rock and Alternative Album). 56th GRAMMYs: Predictions for Record of the Year

JT - Press Photo 2 (Credit Tom Munro RCA R.JPG This year’s race for Record of the Year seems to be leaning towards more urban-ish tunes rather than the pop-rock/live instrumentation it’s actually packed with.

The frontrunner here is without a doubt, Justin Timberlake with “Mirrors” universally acclaimed and compared as the second part of “Cry Me A River” (2004), considered as one of his best songs. He’s also a long-time NARAs favourite and this is definitely his year with the success of his long awaited comeback record The 20/20 Experience. The two other likely contenders are this year’s top-selling singles “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” alongside producer Pharrel and rapper T.I. YouTube Music Awards nominees announced: The reactions

macklemore-ryan-lewis-thrift-shop-18

The first ever YouTube Music Awards nominations were announced this morning. Over a week longer than expected. Once the again the Seattle duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are dominating yet another award show. They’ve been nominated for four out of the six categories to be presented.

As expected, the nominees were based on popularity ranges. Which did not only include number of viewers but also the most shared and liked artists. Furthermore, out of the five videos I predicted to score a nod in my previous post only one of them -“Scream & Shout” by will.i.am. ft. Britney- failed to do so. Odds for the YouTube Music Awards

PSY The YouTube Music Awards nominations will be announced tomorrow -October 17th-. However the only certain things we have are: The awards ceremony will be held on November 3rd in New York -with Lady Gaga, Eminem, and Arcade Fire performing-, there will be only six categories, and the winners will be decided by the users.

What can we assume?

Since the awards were announced on October 1st the eligibility period most range -at most- from October 1st, 2012 to September 30th, 2013 (just like at the GRAMMYs). Since the awards are fan-based, expect the nominees to come from the most watched videos during that period. Now, about the six categories that’d be a tricky one; it could either be as ridiculous as Most Catchy Video; somewhere between Most Popular Video; or a more serious like Music Video of the Year. Will the YouTube Music Awards replace the VMAs?

YouTube-Music-Awards-608x340 It is not a secret to anyone that MTV doesn’t broadcast music videos any more. Some people even find it ironic and misleading how MTV still holds a music awards show. In fact, the 2-hour long ceremony is the longest running time that the TV channel has for music in one year.

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), established in 1984, were once considered the second most important music award show in America (right after the GRAMMYs) however it has lost its credibility. Since 2006 the winners had been purely fan based. Emblematic categories such as Best Group Video or Breakthrough Video has been eliminated.
